History of twitter and what does the future of twitter looks like

Twitter was launched 16 years ago in 2006 on 15th July. Jack Dorsey co-founded the Twitter website with Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass. Initially they tweeted to each other with acquaintances. It was launched in July 2006. Although he started work on it only in March 2006. A total of 224 tweets were made on the first day. Today the situation is that on an average 6,000 tweets are sent every second. Let’s take a look at the history of twitter and how it changed over the years.

History of twitter

Earlier its spelling was twttr.com. After six months of hard work twitter.com came to the fore. The use of the hashtag was first proposed in 2007 by American blogger, product consultant and speaker Chris Messina in a 2007 tweet. Messina made no attempt to patent the use because he felt "it originated from the Internet, and was not owned by anyone". Twitter's popularity began to grow in 2007 when the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) conference was held. By that time, Twitter usage had grown from 20,000 tweets per day to 60,000.

In 2008 , Twitter reported an increase of 100 million in the total number of tweets in each quarter of 2008 . In February 2010 , Twitter users were sending 50 million tweets per day. As of March 2010 , Twitter had over 70,000 registered users. In 2011, the number of tweets posted per day reached the figure of 140 million tweets. When the unfortunate event of Michael Jackson's death occurred on June 25, 2009, Twitter servers crashed after users around the world began tweeting at a rate of 100,000 tweets per hour.

In 2010 , Twitter acquired application developer Atebits . In 2012 , Twitter celebrated its sixth birthday, while also announcing that it had 140 million users and 340 million tweets per day. In 2012 , Twitter announced that it had exceeded 200 million monthly active users. In 2019, Twitter was declared the 10th most downloaded mobile app of the decade from 2010 to 2019. In 2021, Jack Dorsey stepped down as CEO . He was replaced by CTO Parag Agarwal and since then Parag Agarwal is the CEO of Twitter.

What does the future of twitter looks like

In recent events, twitter may be sold to Elon Musk for aout 44 million dollars, but due to some issues reports have suggested that Elon Musk has backed out of the deal and is still working on whether he should buy it or not. But what does this hold for the future of the company?

Reports suggest Twitter has been actively working on an edit button for at least a year and that it is in the final stages of rolling one out, most likely as a feature for users of Twitter Blue, its premium service. Users would also be able to see and track the edit history of a tweet, Wong said, which would further prevent misuse. Twitter has also recently added the Unmention feature, giving people more control over who can tag them on the platform. Users will now be able to untag themselves and leave a conversation on the platform. Here’s everything you need to know about this feature and how it works.
